e-Health

eHealth can mean many things and covers very different situations. The CRIDS analyses the legal, organisational and ethical questions surrounding the development of information and communication technologies in the eHealth sector.

This broadly covers health products and services that are supported by information and communication technology, from healthcare, medical research or the development of medical devices to the development of healthcare policies. 

 Concerning the legal questions, the CRIDS focusses in particular on the following aspects:

• the right to privacy and the protection of personal data;
• the sharing of data between the various actors in the health sector including through networks;
• the rights of patients;
• the organisation of healthcare;
• the regulation of online healthcare services and of medical devices;
• questions of ethical and social endorsement and acceptance of online medical solutions by the various actors (healthcare professionals, patients, helpers, etc.);
• methodologies of development of eHealth systems inspired by pragmatic ethical approaches which allow users involvement in the design of functionalities and interfaces and in the evaluation of prototypes;

These aspects are analysed through topics such as medical research, Big Data, data mining, mobile health (mhealth), artificial intelligence and eHealth applications, plaforms and communications networks in the healthcare sector

We study the impact of information and communications technologies in the health sector through fundamental research and by participating in applied research projects at the European, national, regional and local levels. We frequently adopt a multidisciplinary approach which allows all the actors to be cross-fertilised through experience and knowledge of others.

The research results are communicated through conferences, seminars, workshops and scientific publications. The results are also fed into the teaching either in the Master DTIC course or in courses given in the Computer Science Faculty and the Law Faculty, day or shift instruction, or continuing education.
